Please join AIANEI and preservation architect Gunny Harboe, FAIA, of Harboe Architects, as we tour and learn about the recent restoration of Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL. This 1908 Unitarian Church is considered one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most beautiful and influential works and recently received the 2017 Landmarks Illinois Richard Driehaus Preservation Award for Restoration. After decades of deferred maintenance, the building was placed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2009 list of America’s Most Endangered Places. Beginning April 2015, Unity Temple Restoration Foundation directed a $25 million dollar comprehensive restoration of Unity Temple. The project restored Unity Temple to its original appearance while implementing environmental improvements to ensure its functional sustainability through the next century. Read more
