Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has been awarded a contract to provide architectural and engineering services for two-story classroom additions for both Gilberts and Gary D. Wright elementary schools in Kane County, Illinois.
The design for the two elementary schools will be identical, both receiving eight new classrooms, increasing the capacity of the schools by approximately 200 students each. The additions are approximately 10,000 square feet and will contain similar amenities as the existing classrooms, except for the mechanical and electrical upgrades required by the International Energy Conservation Code. The additions will be constructed with load bearing exterior cavity walls with a brick façade and load bearing interior masonry walls. The interior finishes consist of low volatile organic compound paint and luxury vinyl tile flooring to eliminate the need for waxing the floors during the summer months.
The firm designed both school’s original facilities in 2008.The project cost estimate for each school is $3,200,000. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2017. The classrooms are to be available for the 2017-2018 school year.
